IHS CrestHello Hematite Families,

We hope you had a wonderful holiday season!  There have been some updates to the CDC guidance and our health department's recommendations for quarantine following Covid-19 infection and also exposure to a Covid positive person.  We will follow current CDC and HD guidance in our school district.

Here are the changes you will see in our schools due to this new information:
1. Covid positive students and staff will now isolate themselves for 5 days.  If they have no symptoms OR their symptoms are improving and they have been fever free for at least 24 hours, they will be allowed to come to school while wearing a mask for 5 additional days.
2. Students who have been exposed to a Covid positive person in their home or outside of school may now quarantine at home for 5 days and then return to school while wearing a mask and monitoring for symptoms for 5 additional days.
3. In line with our previous updates (as a reminder), asymptomatic fully vaccinated people who have been exposed can attend school after an exposure while monitoring for symptoms and wearing a mask.  They do not need to quarantine.
Students who have an in-school exposure still have three options:
1. Quarantine at home for 10 days.
2. Opt in to school testing to attend school.
3. Opt out of school testing, attend school, wear a mask and monitor for symptoms.
Symptomatic students who meet criteria for Covid screening will still be sent home for a test or a doctor's note.  If you do not want your child to see the doctor, you still have the option to quarantine them at home for 10 days from symptom onset.
As always, please reach out to the school nurse with any questions or concerns.  If your student has been exposed or tested positive, please continue to inform us so that we can keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible.
